This farmhouse is next to the old barn I painted the other day. I think they are both over 100 years old! At some point, the family probably owned a lot of the land around them which has since been sold off and developed. But this house and its barn still stand as a reminder of the lands agricultural past.

This is an old barn close to home. The bright afternoon light captured my attention here. I love the way it illuminates the trees, barn, and grasses. It just screams summer!

Also, this month (June 16) was my 2-year anniversary of starting A Fine Art Blog! We’ve come a long way since that first post! Thanks for all the support and encouragment through it all. I can’t wait to see where the next 2 years lead.
Cheers!

Art & Critique

June 13th, 2008 takeyce Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

It’s always interesting to hear what others think about my work. I often wonder if I’ve successfully conveyed the essence and mood of the moments captured in my paintings.

So you can imagine how happy I was to see that Elijah Shifrin over at Art & Critique took the time to review a few of my paintings. Thanks, Elijah!!

I’ve never really had someone critique my work in such depth and detail. Elijah reviewed a total of eight paintings from three different series. It was so fascinating to read his perspective on each piece.

You can read the reviews by clicking on the links below:

Hudson River Series

Birches and Maples Series

Winter Landscape Series

Elijah has written some wonderful critiques on various contemporary painters, as well as the old masters. So head on over to his site, it’s definitely worth a read!

Cheers!

Cohoes Falls Study - SOLD

Cohoes Falls Study
oil on stretched canvas
6 x 12 inches
SOLD

Here’s a study of an early spring view of Cohoes Falls on the Mohawk River; the second largest waterfall in New York state.
A friend of mine took me on a little tour of the falls and the town of Cohoes the other day (Thanks, NMS). I learned a cool fact about the falls - A prehistoric mastadon (woolly mammoth) was found there back in the 1800s!! The mammoth is now being displayed at the New York State museum. I think that’s so cool.

This study is already sold, but I plan on completing a couple larger versions in the near future.
